Teeth Whitening at Chatswood Dental Associates

female patient looking in mirrorIs your smile as bright as it’s always been? Or has it grown duller and more yellow over the years?

Tea, coffee and red wine can all cause a smile to lose its lustre. Certain medications can also affect the appearance of your teeth and tobacco use is another common culprit. Yellowing enamel is also a natural part of the ageing process.

Achieve a Confidence-Boosting Smile Fast

We use the latest dental whitening technology to offer our patients a simple, safe and effective method for creating a lighter, brighter smile. In just a little more than an hour’s time, your teeth could be several shades whiter. You can start showing them off straight away.

When your teeth are dazzling white, you’ll likely feel more confident in your personal and professional life.

Zoom Teeth Whitening in Chatswood

At our dental practice, we offer a range of teeth whitening options to help you achieve a brighter, more confident smile. Our options include Zoom in-chair whitening as well as take-home kits, which can be tailored to your individual needs and preferences.

Zoom in-chair whitening is a popular option among our patients because of its quick results and convenience. This treatment is performed in our office and usually takes around 60-90 minutes. During the treatment, a special gel is applied to your teeth and activated by a special light. This gel helps to break down stains and discolouration on the surface of your teeth, leaving you with a noticeably brighter smile. The treatment is painless and most patients experience little to no sensitivity afterwards.

While in-chair whitening can be more expensive than take-home options, it does offer longer-lasting results. In fact, the results of in-chair whitening can last up to 6 months or even longer with proper maintenance. This makes it a great option for special events or occasions when you want to look your best.

Take-home Kits

If you’re looking for a more affordable option, our take-home whitening kits may be a better choice for you. These kits are customised to fit your teeth and include a special whitening gel that you apply to your teeth at home. While the results may not be as dramatic as in-chair whitening, you will still see a noticeable improvement in the colour of your teeth.

Another benefit of take-home whitening kits is that they can be used to maintain the results of in-chair whitening. This means that you can touch up your smile whenever you want to keep it looking its best.

We use Philips Zoom professional teeth whitening because we like the results it provides to our patients.

Before we get started, we’ll protect your gums, so the whitening gel only touches your teeth-not the soft tissues of your mouth. Then we’ll put the professional-strength whitening gel on your teeth and use a special blue light to help speed up the whitening effect. We can repeat this process up to four times to help you get the maximum results.

During the in-chair whitening procedure, people who have a sensitive gag reflex might struggle a bit during the procedure. If you let us know that you’re concerned about this issue, we will do everything we can to minimise potential discomfort.
People who purchase over-the-counter whitening products in shops often report that they feel sensitivity after they use them. Because we do our best to protect your gums, (we only apply the whitening gel to the teeth) most of our patients report little sensitivity after a professional treatment.

How Can I Keep My Teeth White?

Refresh your smile with a Philips Zoom in-chair treatment every year or two as needed. Plan to schedule a checkup every six months to polish away any new stains from the foods you eat.

Are You Ready for a New Smile?

Teeth whitening can help restore the bright, white teeth of your youth. If you have an upcoming special occasion, such as a wedding, reunion or job interview, why not go with the increased self-confidence that can come with professional teeth whitening?

Because the whitening process tends to be more effective after a professional dental clean, we recommend that you undergo the bleaching process soon after a checkup.

How long will the results of whitening last?

Our in-chair whitening procedures are usually fairly long-lasting. It will depend, however, on the structure of your teeth and the food or drink you regularly consume. Typically, people find that their whitening gives them a good result for a year or two. After that period, they will repeat the teeth whitening procedure. Or, if you purchase a take-home whitening kit, you can touch up your in-chair procedure periodically to maintain your results.

It’s important to remember that whitening treatments don’t permanently whiten teeth. If you resume consuming foods or drinks that cause staining, the whiteness can begin to fade in as little as a month following your treatment.

How white will my teeth get?

The Philips Zoom treatment can whiten teeth by up to eight shades. Following your treatment, you may experience dramatically whiter teeth. However, this depends on the colour and type of teeth you have.

Typically, individuals with yellow coloured teeth see better results than those with white, brown or grey teeth.

Is there an age limit to whitening?

To have teeth whitening done, you must be at least 18 years of age. We recommend that you only undertake whitening after your teeth have finished growing. There is no older limit on having teeth whitening. It’s important to note that any restorations you have, such as crowns or bridges, will not respond to whitening, as they are not real teeth.

How long does in-chair whitening take?

Your in-chair whitening procedure takes about an hour. You can schedule your appointment during your lunch hour or at another convenient time without having to schedule a follow-up.

Does tooth whitening harm my enamel?

No, teeth whitening doesn’t cause any permanent damage to the tooth structures.

Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?

Some people experience some slight sensitivity after whitening, but it typically subsides within a day or two, usually less.

Are there other teeth whitening methods to consider?

There are various over-the-counter alternatives to professional tooth whitening. These come in the form of whitening gels or strips. However, these products are not recommended by dentists and have resulted in users experiencing blistering or bleeding gums. Also, OTC whitening products are not nearly as effective as professional-grade ingredients.

Are whitening toothpastes effective?

Whitening toothpastes typically only clean surface stains and don’t truly change the colour of the teeth. While you may see some results, the teeth aren’t actually being whitened.

How does having regular checkups impact the colour of my teeth?

Your routine checkups involve an examination of your teeth, pinpointing any potential problems so they can be addressed. Checkups also consist of the removal of buildup from your teeth. You may notice that your teeth look brighter after having this simple scale done at the dentist.

If my teeth are severely discoloured is teeth whitening my best option?

While most people are suitable candidates for teeth whitening, those with severely discoloured teeth may get better results with other cosmetic treatments. These include veneers or crowns.
