Dental Bridges at Chatswood Dental Associates
Missing teeth can make life more challenging. Not only do they affect your appearance, the open space they create can be more difficult to chew the foods you need to stay healthy.
We offer a number of solutions for restoring missing teeth. A bridge is a time-tested restoration that closes the gap to help restore both the appearance of your smile and the function of your bite.
What Is a Bridge?
A bridge consists of a prosthetic tooth held in place by crowns affixed over the adjacent natural teeth on either side of the gap. Porcelain bridges are durable and look incredibly natural. At our practice, we know how important aesthetics are when it comes to your smile, so we also offer zirconia bridges for additional durability without compromising your appearance.
Why Do I Need a Bridge?
- Excessive wear
- Pain in your jaw joints
- Eruption of the opposing tooth (supra-eruption), which exposes the root to decay
A bridge can put a stop to these issues to help protect your long-term oral health.
Who Is a Candidate for a Fixed Bridge?
- The adjacent teeth are strong and healthy enough to support a crown
- The gap is a reasonable size (usually only one or two missing teeth)
- Your teeth are mostly healthy with minimal decay
At the preparation appointment, your adjacent teeth will be shaped to make room for the crowns. Once your teeth are ready, we’ll take a digital scan of your bite for the lab to use when crafting your new restoration. To protect your prepped teeth, we’ll fit a temporary bridge while the permanent one is made.
We only send our work to a laboratory we trust to provide our patients with high-quality, beautiful results. After about two weeks, your final bridge will be ready to try in. We’ll check the fit and if everything is correct, it will be cemented into place.
