The Best Oral Health Starts With Our Hygienist

Your hygienist is the first line of defence against tooth decay and gum disease.

Woman smiling teeth cleaningAt Chatswood Dental Associates, our hygienist is an important member of our team. When you come into our practice for a cleaning, we take the time to learn more about you and your dental needs. The hygienist personalises their treatment based on what’s found during the examination.

In many cases, your hygienist is able to pinpoint a potential issue before it grows into a major problem. Being proactive in addressing the issue can save you time and money!

Prevention Is Key

Some people feel visiting the dentist every six months for a checkup and cleaning is unnecessary. Good oral health is important to overall health and wellness; healthy teeth and gums help the body stay healthy.

Our hygienist is very thorough and comprehensive in her exam. We use advanced technology, like Prophy-jet cleaning, in addition to hand scaling and other traditional methods, to give you the cleanest mouth possible.

During your cleaning, the hygienist also makes note of any issues that may need further attention from our dentist.

Tips for Parents

It’s never too early to think about your child’s dental health. Here are some tips that may help:

  1. Take your child to the dentist early on. Getting them used to the process now makes maintaining the routine easier as they get older. Our dentists believe the first visit should be by 2 years old at the latest.
  2. Use a low fluoride toothpaste for kids under 6 years old. Young children tend to swallow quite a bit of toothpaste. It’s good to limit how much fluoride goes into their system at a young age.
  3. Help your kids brush their teeth until they can do a good job on their own. This might cause a bit of a battle with your independent toddler, but it helps their teeth in the long run.
  4. Make sure they rinse their mouths with water after a sugary treat. If you can get them to brush, even better. The less time sugary acids are on their teeth, the better.
