Is teeth whitening safe?
Teeth whitening is safe and effective – particularly when completed under the supervision of your dentist!
The main whitening ingredient (peroxide) will not harm your fillings or other restorations (although it won’t whiten them, either, so if you’re planning restorations, it might be wise to whiten your teeth beforehand). The product is mild enough that sensitivity is minimum while still strong enough to give you impressive and beautiful results.
One of the keys to the safety and comfort of teeth whitening is that we offer Zoom! whitening here in our office. During your treatment, we’ll protect your sensitive lip and gum tissue so that the whitening product doesn’t come in contact with it. Your take-home touch-up kit will be made using impressions of your teeth, so it will fit you precisely and prevent the product from pooling in areas or spilling over onto your gums and lips. We’ll also give you instructions for using the product correctly, and, of course, we are here if you ever have any questions or concerns.
If you are looking to make a change to the appearance of your smile, teeth whitening is often the simplest, most conservative, and most affordable treatment option.
