Is it possible to remove my veneers anytime I want?
Veneers are versatile cosmetic treatments that come in various versions: low-prep, no-prep, or traditional porcelain veneers.
At Chatswood Dental Associates, we prefer to use no-prep ultra-thin veneers that allow us to place the veneers without the need to alter your natural tooth structure. Not only does this keep your veneer placement conservative and non-invasive, it also makes the veneers reversible if need be. It's rare that a person with veneers wants to go back to their old look, but if this is true for you, you'll be able to keep that as an option.
Conventional veneers require us to remove a layer of natural enamel to allow the veneers to fit properly. Once removed, dental enamel cannot regenerate. Without this layer of enamel or a veneer to cover and protect it, your teeth will be more sensitive and at a higher risk for decay and other infections. This also means that once the teeth are prepped for veneers, the process is not reversible. While you can plan a new set of veneers (and you will need to replace your veneers about every 10 to 15 years), you will always need to wear veneers to protect the health of your teeth.
When you come to our Chatswood dental office for a cosmetic dentistry evaluation, we will examine the size and shape of your teeth as well as their alignment and discuss all your options with you so that you can make a choice that gives you the results you want for your smile.
