I play sports. What happens if I chip a veneer?
At Chatswood Dental Associates, we strive to protect your teeth from damage, dental conditions, and accidents whenever possible. Whenever our patients play sports, we recommend that they use a custom athletic mouthguard to protect natural teeth, as well as your dentistry. If you do chip a veneer, contact us right away to arrange a repair.
What Is A Mouthguard?
A mouthguard is a thin, rubber-like oral appliance that fits over your top teeth and your gums, up to the point where your lip and gums meet. To create a mouthguard, we will take an impression of your teeth to ensure a good fit. The material we use, a BPA-free plastic, is somewhat pliable, so it's more comfortable on your soft tissue than a rigid oral appliance. Since it covers all your teeth and part of your bone structure, a mouthguard can absorb much of the force from a stray fist, lacrosse stick, or rogue ball. We recommend a mouthguard in nearly every sport and if you enjoy adventures such as mountain biking, rock climbing, or even off-roading on an ATV.
Not only can a mouthguard protect your teeth, but it can also help you avoid unnecessary pain from your teeth gouging into your delicate tissue in a sporting accident. It is a small investment in protecting the health, beauty, and comfort of your smile.
