Will dentures make me look different?
The feel of dentures usually takes some getting used to, but modern dentures actually look very similar to your natural teeth. Unlike old-fashioned dentures, today’s dentures offer options for our patients to choose from that are more aesthetic than your parents’ or grandparents’ dentures. When you have missing teeth, dentures can actually improve your appearance by filling out your facial structure.
If you need complete dentures (such as when all your teeth are missing), you can play a role in deciding how your final denture will look. Complete dentures typically consist of a pink resin base that looks like your gum tissue and realistic-looking denture teeth. Our dentists will choose denture teeth based on your goals for your appearance, your gender, your age, and your facial structure so that the outcome appears as natural as possible.
If you still have some of your remaining teeth and require partial dentures, we strive to match them accurately to your natural teeth, so that your teeth and denture blend.
Function and appearance are both important when designing dentures. Determining whether dentures are a good option for you requires a comprehensive exam. We will discuss your options with you so that you can make a decision that allows you to eat a wider variety of foods, while giving you the look you want.
