How long should I wear my dentures?
Unless you are told otherwise, you can wear your dentures all day and then remove them at night. Most dentures are not designed to be worn at night, and this is an ideal time to clean and soak them so that they are fresh and ready for the next day!
When you initially get your dentures, your dentist may recommend that you wear them around the clock. This is to help your mouth get used to the dentures and adapt so that you can speak and eat with ease. Once this period is complete, however, you’ll want to begin removing your dentures at night.
One exception to this is implant-supported dentures. In some cases, implant-supported dentures do not need to be detached and removed at night. Your dentist will let you know if this is true for you.
Dentures do require regular care and attention to remain in good shape. You’ll want to clean your dentures with a brush and cleanser specifically designed for dentures since regular brushes and toothpastes can be too abrasive. If you use a product that is too abrasive, you risk damaging the finish on the dentures, which can allow the dentures to pick up stains and bacteria.
