What is zoom whitening?
Zoom is an advanced tooth whitening system that can return your teeth to their natural whiteness in about 1 ½ hours.
How white will my teeth become?
Clinical studies show that zoom whitens up to 8 shades. As a general rule, the darker the teeth are to begin with, the greater the change in colour will be. Ultimately, the goal will be to achieve your optimum, natural whiteness.
What actually happens?
A week before we zoom your teeth, an imprint of your teeth is taken to fabricate the touch-up kit, and you will be given a special cream to apply to your teeth. On the day itself, a ‘before’ photograph is taken so we can record how your teeth were. Your gums and lips are protected, and whitening gel is applied on your teeth. This gel activated by the zoom light. Relax! In about 1 ½ hours, the procedure is completed and an ‘after’ photograph is taken. Now you will love your re-freshed smile.
Does it work with crowns, veneers or fillings?
Whitening cannot change the colour of the crowns, veneers or fillings. We will recommend having your teeth whitened before having crowns or veneers, and we can replace darker fillings.
How long does it last?
This depends primarily on the individual as certain habits, such as cigarettes, coffee, tea, coke, and infrequent visits to the dentist for regular cleanings can work against the results. Regular professional care and using home touch-up kits can help maintain your natural whiteness for a couple of years. Some people may prefer to have the zoom whitening treatment more frequently.
How do I keep my teeth white?
- Brush your teeth at least twice daily or after each meal
- Floss daily
- Use the zoom touch-up kit to freshen up your smile.
- Visit your dentist or dental hygienist for regular cleanings and examinations. (Recommendation: every 6 months).
- Get zoom whitening performed every one to two years.
Is it safe?
Yes! Tooth whitening will not soften enamel or existing fillings. The primary ingredient (hydrogen peroxide) has been safely used in teeth whitening for over 100 years and is recognized as an effective whitening ingredient by the dental community.
What if I have sensitive teeth?
A small percentage of our clients may experience a dull sensitivity following the procedure, but it only lasts for a day or two. Taking an analgesic almost always resolves the discomfort, and the special cream we supply reduces the sensitivity. It is best to avoid hot and cold drinks for the first 24 hours. We will provide you with an information sheet on how we can help you reduce the sensitivity.
