When and why are tooth coloured restorations used?

Tooth coloured resin restorations are best used on small areas of decay or in the replacement of small amalgam fillings. Small tooth coloured restorations can restore your teeth to their original appearance and strength. In addition, these restorations are also very conservative (relative to amalgam restorations), enabling preservation of more healthy tooth structure.

Here at Chatswood Dental Associates, many patients request to have their amalgam restorations removed from their mouth. This is done in a safe and controlled environment and the tooth is often refilled with tooth coloured composite resin. Natural looking and strong enough to form part of your tooth, this is a great way to start your new smile. Imagine a big hearty laugh and nothing but white teeth to show off!

Composites are not only used to restore decayed areas and replace amalgam restorations, but are also used for cosmetic improvements of the smile by changing the colour of the teeth or reshaping disfigured teeth.

What is resin bonding?

Bonding involves the placement of composite resin onto the front teeth for aesthetic purposes. As resin can be moulded prior to being light cured, it allows us to create beautiful smiles.
